Ailsa Craig

An island located 9 miles from the west coast of Scotland, lying half way between Glasgow and Belfast, Ailsa Craig is a massive volcanic plug made entirely from granite, rising majestically from the Firth of Clyde.

Ailsa Craig is a RSPB nature reserve. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Protection Area because it supports 73,000 breeding seabirds.

The island is accessible by boat and tours run from Girvan and Campbeltown during the summer.

Galloway Forest Park

Managed by the Forestry Commission Scotland, the park covers approximately 300 square miles. There are 3 Glentrool, Kirroughtree and Clatteringshaws and the park offers a wealth of activities from mountain bike trails, hillwalking to forest drives. In 2009, the Park was designated as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, confirming the area as one of the best places for stargazing in the world.
